  20. Getting Started:

  22. FireFighter was written with the user always in mind.
  23.  
  24. This means that menus and data entering has been made as easy
  25. as possible.
  26.  
  27. There are a few rules that must be followed in order for the 
  28. program to work as intended.
  29.  
  30. By using the icon ribbon you will save key strokes.
  31.  
  32. Icon(Man)          -- view roster records
  33. Icon(telephone)    -- use dialer
  34. Icon(Training Tapes)-- view training records.
  35. Icon(calculator)   -- view individual training records.
  36. Icon(graph)        -- view statistical training report.
  37. Icon(burning house)-- view incident records.
  38. Icon(calculator)   -- view individual training records.
  39. Icon(Broken graph) -- view statistical training report.
  40. Icon(screw driver) -- view maintenance records.
  41. Icon(Air bottle)   -- view air bottle records.
  42. Icon(Hose)         -- view hose records.
  43. Icon(ladder)       -- view ladder records.

  45. Entering Data:

  47. Dates must always be entered using the format: MM-DD-YYYY
  48. eg; 01-22-1993.

  50. When entering Roster names and there are two or more members with
  51. the SAME FIRST and LAST names, you must make one or more of the 
  52. names unique.
  53.  
  54. eg; (John Smith) if more than one member has this name you could
  55. differentiate between the names using J. Smith John L. Smith etc.

  57. When entering the rank in the "Roster File", you must use these
  58. naming conventions;
  59.  
  60.                   Fire Chief or Chief
  61.  
  62.                   Asst. Fire Chief or Assistant Fire Chief
  63.  
  64.                   Deputy Chief
  65.                   
  66.                   Captain or Cpt.
  67.  
  68.                   Lieut. or Lieutenant

  70.                   FireFighter or Fire Fighter

  72.                   EMS 1

  87. The "Roster" will recognize "EMS P" (probation trainie), "EMS 1"
  88.  (EMT level 1), "EMS 2" (EMT level 2) and "EMS 3" (EMT level 3).

  90. These must be entered in your roster records as EMS P, EMS 1, 
  91. EMS 2, or EMS 3.

  95. You may enter anything AFTER the rank as long as the letter 
  96. total (including spaces) is 25 or less. 
  97. Eg; Captain-Training officer.

  99. The roster list will be in Alphabetical order until you print
  100. the roster, in which case the printed list will be in RANK order.

  102. If your department members are paid by the 
  103. Incident (rather than by the hour) then start FireFighter 
  104. using FFwin /C. 
  105.  
  106. To do this, open the windows program manager, select "File" and
  107. then select the "Properties" menu selection.
  108. Change the default FFwin.exe to FFwin /C
  109.  
  110. If your department members are not receiving any type of
  111. Honararium or payment for training or incidents, then 
  112. enter $0.00 in the training and incident payment boxes.

  115. Using the Mouse:
  116.  
  117. Using the mouse will make FireFighter easer to use.. If you
  118. do not like using the mouse, all menus will work using the
  119. Tab key and <Enter> key where applicable.
  120.  
  121. If you are using the mouse all windows conventions are
  122. used eg; double clicking etc.

  124. Problem Solving;
  125.  
  126. Although FireFighter for windows is very straight forward
  127. there are a number of things you should check if you are 
  128. having problems.

  130. If you are having problems with training/Incident or Roster
  131. files, you should check these:
  132.  
  133.    Dates must be entered in the form MM-DD-YYYY
  134.  
  135.    Rank must be entered in the correct form (see above).
  136.  
  137.    Roster First/Last name not unique.
  138.  
  139.    Incident hours not entered correctly.
  140.  
  141.

  143. files.
